Metal Finishing – Plating & Coating
Solid Film Lubricant
Dry-film lubrication where liquid lubricants cannot be used; MoS₂- and PTFE-based coatings reduce friction and prevent galling.
Process
Dry-film lubrication applied to moving parts. Minimizes friction damage and protects parts under heavy load in demanding conditions. Applied in various types to suit the requirement.
What it provides
- Very good wear resistance
- Insulating or conductive options
- Applicable to tight-tolerance parts
- Dry lubrication that attracts no dust, dirt or moisture
Frequently asked questions
Where is a solid-film lubricant needed?
In vacuum, high temperature, dust, or wherever oil counts as a contaminant: weapon mechanisms, gears and fasteners. MIL-PRF-46010 applies, with MoS₂- and PTFE-based options.
What coating is needed underneath?
Phosphate on steel, chemical conversion or anodize on aluminium; the specification requires this pre-treatment for adhesion.
