Process
A nickel-phosphorus alloy forms on the metal surface through an autocatalytic reaction. The coating deposits uniformly; post-plating heat treatment increases wear resistance and improves adhesion.

Frequently asked questions
Which specifications cover electroless nickel?
It is applied to MIL-C-26074, AMS-2404 and ASTM-B733. The phosphorus content (low, mid, high) is chosen for the target: high phosphorus for corrosion resistance, low phosphorus for hardness.
Can hardness be raised by heat treatment?
Yes. Ageing at around 400 °C raises hardness from about 500 HV to over 900 HV; on steel it is planned together with hydrogen embrittlement relief.
