Cadmium Plating
Corrosion protection still specified in aerospace standards; low galvanic potential against aluminum makes it preferred for steel parts mating with aluminum.
Process

Frequently asked questions
Why is cadmium still used?
On steel parts mating with aluminium it gives low galvanic potential, lubricity and consistent torque, so aerospace specifications (QQ-P-416, AMS-QQ-P-416) still call for it. Zinc-nickel is proposed as the alternative in civil work.
Which passivation types are available?
Type I (clear), Type II (yellow/olive chromate) and Type III (phosphate); on high-strength steel post-plating hydrogen embrittlement relief is mandatory.
